DESIGNER
Kerry Clarkson Valdivia is half Peruvian + half British and was brought up between Los Angeles, London & Lima. Through the lens of this diverse cultural background Kerry began her adult life as an entrepreneur in fashion, giving her the opportunity to investigate heritage artisan craft in various parts of the world. Observing how mass-production has largely replaced artisan craft on a global scale, her focus has been to build a knowledge base around the handmade and the value that it represents.
Kerry's respect for the handmade extends beyond the artifact, to how the narrative evolves alongside the wearer. She believes that items become alive with use and tending to. To this end, Kerry prioritizes noble materials that are closer to an unprocessed state, as they lend themselves to living products that transform over time. Taka represents more than a tactile creation, it represents intimacy as an antidote to the impersonal.
